let's take marks scored as 'x' now had (x+10)*9 = x^2 9x+90=x^2 x^2-9x-90=0 x^2-15x+6x-90=0 x(x-15)+6(x-15)=0 hence (x+6)(x-15) = 0 therefore x = -6 ; x = 15 hence she got 15 marks in her test.

Let the marks scored in Mathematics be x. As given, 9( x+10 ) = x2 x2-9x-90 = 0 x2-15x+6x-90 =0 x(x-15)+6(x-15) = 0 (x+6)(x-15) = 0 Therefore, x = 15 ( x = -6 is ignored)

If m and n are odd positive integers, then m2 + n2 is even, but not divisible by 4. Justify.
Since m is odd positive integer then we can write m=2a+1 and n=2b+1, such that a,b >0 m2+n2=(2a+1)^2+(2b+1)^2 = 4a^2+1+4a+4b^2+1+4b = 4a^2+4b^2+4a+4b+2 = 2(2a^2+2b^2+2a+2b+1) Above eqn is divisible by 2 but not divisible by 4.
