Let’s fix it manually: Equation: [ \frac{24}{18 - x} = \frac{24}{18 + x} + 1 ] Solve properly → x = 6 km/h. Speed of the stream = 6 km/h So the river is cruising like a lazy tourist, not a Formula 1 car. read less

UpStream means when boat goes against the current =18-xLet say speed of Stream or current is x Downstream means boat goes along with current = 18+x Hence Subtracting both times = 1hour we get equation on solving we get x = 6 km/hr

The river either works with you or against you: Downstream (The Joyride): The current pushes you faster. Speed = (18 + x) km/h. Upstream (The Uphill Battle): You fight the current. Speed = (18 - x) km/h. The Math Translation Time equals Distance divided by Speed. We know the upstream struggle took exactly 1 hour longer than the downstream ride: Since a river cannot flow at a negative speed, we toss out the -54.
