If a body travels from position A to position B, the shortest distance between A and B is the displacement. So displacement is the length of the straight line joining A and B. The distance is the length of the path along which body has actually travelled to reach position B from position A. Hence displacement...

If a body travels from position A to position B, the shortest distance between A and B is the displacement. So displacement is the length of the straight line joining A and B. The distance is the length of the path along which body has actually travelled to reach position B from position A. Hence displacement has only one value between two positions whereas distance travelled can have different values depending on path traversed. The displacement is a vector quantity having magnitude as well as direction whereas displacement has only magnitude. read less

Distance tells you all the possible paths between any two points whereas displacement tells you the shortest path between the same points. Distance is a number and hence can be positive, zero or negative. (scalar quantity) whereas displacement is a direction(vector quantity) denoted by arrow mark on...

Displacement is the shortest path (under the usual Euclidean metric), that is, the directed straight line segment that joins the initial position to the final position of a particle whose motion is being investigated in a given period of time. Distance on the other hand is the total length of the path...

Displacement is the shortest path (under the usual Euclidean metric), that is, the directed straight line segment that joins the initial position to the final position of a particle whose motion is being investigated in a given period of time. Distance on the other hand is the total length of the path of motion (that is the locus) of the particle. Displacement is thus a vector (under usual notion of "vectors" in physics) while distance is a scalar (under usual notion of "vectors" in physics). The reader should note that the notions of scalars and vectors in physics are somewhat vague and non-rigorous. There is a concept of vectors and scalars in mathematics also that is quite different from that of physics. read less

Distance is a scalar quantity, whereas displacement is a vector quantity. Distance is defined as the total path length traversed by a body, whereas displacement is the shortest path length traversed by a body.

Displacement is moving an object from one end to the other.where the things are displaced at proper place. Distance u push the thing at a short distant place.for example if u want to move the object like fridge then u will move it at a short distant but if u ha ve a light object u can easily displace...

The shortest path b/w two points is displacement where as distance is the route b/w them. displacement is a straight line path where as distance is not , displacement is a vector and distance is a scalar

Moreover to these points.distance can have only positive values whereas displacement can have positive, negative and zero values. For example, the distance travelled by a body on a circular path is its circumference of the circle The displacement of the same body is zero

Distance is a scalar quantity. It is the distance between two point, while displacement is a vector quantity and it is the shortest distance between two points.

Shortest distance between 2 points is called displacement. Distance is the route between 2 points

Distance is the length of the actual path travelled by an object in a given interval of time. But displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and the final position of a moving object in a particular direction.
