The pain is because of Lactic acid build up in the muscles as a result of anaerobic respiration. Anaerobic respiration takes placedue to the lack of oxygen. During vigorous exercise, we generally tend to take shorter and faster breaths which also leads to lesser oxygen intake. This can be avoided with a prolonged regular exercise regime where the body can get accustomed to the rigorous exercise and the respiration process gets regularized and aerobic respiration takes place. read less
