No learning ethical hacking is not a bad idea, even Government recruits these kind of students for their work related to cyber crime.

It depends. Hacking is an enticing subject and one may just get too deep into it. Consequently, you may get distracted from your original B.Tech. studies. Although ethical hacking is not such a bad idea, know what you're doing and how you're spending your time.
