In organic chemistry nomenclature is one of the important topic we come across. This is introduce for studnets from school level. However we still find studnets making mistake in these types of easy questions. Following are the steps to be followed while solving the nomencleature problems:

Rule 1:

Select the longest chain in the molecule. This is the parent chain.

Rule 2:

Number the carbon atoms in chain in such a way that substituents should get the least priority number.

Rule 3:

If the compound is having more than one substituent then number the substituent in a way that both should get lower possible numbers.

Rule 4:

While writing the name of the compound having more than one substituents follow the alphabetic order.

These rules are explained on basis ooen chain compounds.
