No. Both these technologies are meant to co-exist and support each other. How many companies have truly big data? very less in percentage. Both Bigdata and RDBMS meet very different end of spectrum and many companies have solutions based off both these technologies.

You should focus on the analytics part of Data Science, and not on big data. Analytics require knowledge of business along with Data Science skills.
