Hi Neha. This is Digjaya. Being Bharatnatyam Dancer and Teacher, I feel child should learn classical dance. Because after learning classical dance, student/dancer could pick up any other dance style easily. And classical dance would also help student to know our culture.

First of all, two years is too early to learn any dance (or even sports or former education) even if we want to take them early start and go ahead in life. It may do harm to her knee also. If you still do want to put her in some dance class then choose one of Indian Classical dance. Kathak and Bharatnatyam are two most popular classical Indian dances. Kathak is a bit easy, bharatnatyam more formal and comparatively difficult. I would go for Bharatnatyam. A dancer of classical dance can, later, learn western dance easily. read less

Wel, i suggest not to be hurry now. once child grow at least 5y old. she will be totally fit to grasp and gain what she leaning. you can make her watch all types of dances on tv. and notice her which she bliss most. so then u can approach good trainer for her.

Bharatanatyam is a dance form which i have learned from my age 4 and I suggest you the same because it is a form which has movements involved and a 2 years child can persue rather than expressions required art form

Play with her and both and your daughter enjoy. .. do not force any dance in her. If you are dancing or watching TV or videos she may tap few steps allow her to do that ...and take video of those moments fo your nostalgov enjoyment in future. 5 years plus is ideal age to start dance.

1st is basic of any classical dances..u can teach her odissi.it will maintain her body fitness n softness.if she starts to learn it from this age ,she will be a grt dancer after 10 yrs.if she got interest

Hi Neha. Of course classical dance is the best option. But for most of the classical dances you need to maintain a basic position which is to squat during the routine. This requires a lot of body strength which. So I suggest that you wait for another 2 to 3 years so then she can be ready physically....

I suggest you can start with any normal dance class now, where she can go and enjoy herself and get acquainted to music and rhythm. This will definitely help her as her sense of music will develop. Also don't push it in her. As evvery child is different. Some develop an interest in it while some find other hobbies interesting. All the best to you. And love to your daughter. read less
