I am an experienced Visual Arts educator specializing in Fine Arts, with extensive practice in teaching drawing, painting, mixed media, and conceptual art-making across middle and senior school levels. My teaching focuses on developing students’ artistic skills, creative thinking, visual literacy, and personal expression, while grounding their work in strong fine art principles and techniques. I guide students through observational drawing, value studies, composition, perspective, and proportion, using traditional fine art media such as graphite, charcoal, ink, watercolour, acrylic, and pastel. My focus is on emphasizing elements of art and principles of design, helping students apply these intentionally in their artworks. In painting units, I teach colour theory, tonal gradation, layering, brush control, and surface exploration, encouraging experimentation while maintaining technical accuracy. Students are supported in exploring both realistic and expressive approaches, allowing them to develop an individual artistic voice. My practice-based teaching integrates art history and fine art contexts, exposing students to classical, modern, and contemporary artists. I encourage students to analyze artistic styles, techniques, and intentions, and apply this understanding meaningfully within their own studio work. I have strong experience in process-based learning, guiding students through ideation, research, experimentation, refinement, and reflection. Students maintain visual journals and process portfolios, documenting sketches, artist references, technique trials, and evaluative reflections aligned with Fine Arts assessment criteria. As an IB Visual Arts educator, I align studio practice with IB assessment objectives, supporting students in investigative research, technical development, critical reflection, and curatorial thinking. I mentor students in preparing Process Portfolios, Comparative Studies, and Exhibitions, ensuring their work demonstrates both technical skill and conceptual depth. Assessment and feedback are integral to my teaching. I provide constructive, criteria-based feedback that highlights strengths in technique and creativity while guiding students toward refinement and improvement. My feedback emphasizes artistic intention, craftsmanship, risk-taking, and reflective thinking. Overall, my teaching practice in Fine Arts aims to nurture confident, skilled, and thoughtful young artists who can communicate ideas visually, engage critically with art, and demonstrate discipline in studio practice while developing a lifelong appreciation for the Fine Arts.
