I also learn the similar words which could give same meaning and then understand which words suits better in communication, this is not a long or short process but takes amount effort to improve words knowledge and build vocabulary based on what you learn. It is based on your interest in learning language. Try to read English newspapers (The Hindu) everyday, it will give more collections of words for your advancement in English. Use Oxford dictionary and try to learn five words with "The Saurus" everyday.
