What is the difference between carnatic and hindustani music?

Somany differences.. Few n mainly difference is 1. Language difference 2. In Hindustani music taal follow the rag. But in carnatic music raag follow taal.

To make it very easy Carnatic is South Indian music style and hindustani is North Indian style of music but they are very similar both use same s r g m p d n s and I think the main difference is in the ornamentation. In carnatic music we have thousands of ragas and 35 different talams are there on the other hand hindustani has good number of ragas and talas and there are many equivalent ragas you can find between these two styles if we go more deep analysing it goes on and on but if you ask me to put it in laymen's terms I would say carnatic music is complex and rich and technically brilliant and hindustani is little bit simple and more melodious with having all of those important technical elements I think this might be helpful for you Thank you read less

hindustani music has more alaps. pitch is also given priority in hindustani. false note at high pitch is something frowned upon. carnatic concentrates on kritis whereas hindustani has music from different gharanas
