The Jaati of the Raags is basically the classification of a Raag based on the number of notes used in its Aaroh and Avroh. Sampoorn is played or sung using all 7 notes, Shadhav is played or sung using 6 notes, Audhav is played or sung using 5 notes and Surtar is played or sung 4 notes. In Our ancient Vedic Indian Hindustani music, there are primarily three basic Jaati or classification of Raags : Audhav (Raags which have only 5 notes in aaroh and avroh (ascend and descend both) , Shaadhav (Raags which have 6 notes), Sampoorn (Raags which have all the 7 notes); and nine sub-categories with all the possible combinations of these three categories, like Audhav-Audhav (Having 5-5 notes in aaroh and avroh (ascending and descending series both), Audhav-Shadhav ( only 5 notes in aaroh (ascending) and 6 notes in avroh (descend), Audhav-Sampoorn (5 notes in aaroh (Ascend) and all 7 notes in avroh (descend ) The Raags with 5 notes are also known as the Pentatonic raags and are called Audhav Jaati Raags. The Audhav-Jaati raags are 1. Raag Bhoopali 2. Raag Deshkaar 3. Raag Jait-Kalyan 4. Raag Vibhaas 5. Raag Shivranjini 6. Raag Bhoop-Todi 7. Raag Hansdhwani 8. Raag Durga 9. Raag Malkauns 10. Raag Hindol 11. Raag Madhmad Saarang 12. Raag Abhogi The Audhav-Sampoorn Raag has (in aaroh 5 notes and in avroh 7 notes), Audhav-Sampoorn jaati Raag is Sindoora and Audhav-Sampoorn (Vakr) jaati Raags are 1. Raag Kamod 2. RaagBasant 3. Raag Khambavati and Sampoorn-Audhav means that (in aaroh there are 7 notes and in avroh there are 5 notes) Shadav-Audhav means ( it has 6 notes in aaroh and 5 notes in avroh) and Audhav-Shadhav (Vakr) Raag is Shuddha-Sarang (Example- ?? ???? ??? ??? ?? ??????, ??? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??? ?? ???? ????, ????? ??? ??? ?? ???? ???? ????) , and Raag Deshi. One exception found for Sampurn audav jaati is "Shuddha Nat" All shuddha swar except Ga, Ni In avaroh, That Bilawal. Other than this no other raga of such jati (except some jod ragas) can be sung/played in Hindustani music manner. Please share if you find any other raag. I hope it would have helped

Hi Ankita, Nice to know that you want to learn music. I would suggest to continue the music which you were learning at your school level. So that you can learn it easily and then move on to the advanced lessons.
