No it is not necessary to learn Classical vocals . Kishore Kumar, who is considered ( and is according to me) the king of Bollywood music did not have any formal training.There have been many singers who never had any classical vocals training.But,being a singer myself I feel that one should learn classical music because it opens up the voice due to which it starts sounding better.Also, you'll be able to take variations easily ( as classical music focusses on improvising) . Take the example of some of the current pop singers who have learnt classical like , Shafqat Amanat Ali , Javed Ali , Shankar Mahadevan , Sajjad Ali , RoopKumar Rathod etc. who can sing anything effortlessly . You may also learn Light music ( pop , bollywood / other than classical) , in which you'll be taught about voice modulation , beat sense , singing with emotions etc. read less
