The main difference between both music is - Hindustani classical is based on upaj and Ragas, while on the other hand carnatic music is based on structured music, that's being sung from older times and now is being continued.

First of all a teacher should be able to teach every thing that will be asked by the students.So he or she should be well learned in the subject and have good command on it.A teacher should be sincere in teaching the subject to the student.
