While I think it’s really variable depending on what school you attend and what type of student you are, I would say in general quite rigorous.

As a music major you learn far more than just musicianship. You’re forced to learn how to be an adult, be responsible for your choices, figure out time management, learn what motivates you specifically. It’s definitely tough and feels like trial-by-fire sometimes, but ultimately it makes you a much more capable worker, regardless of what profession you end up in. You decide if you practice, if you learn your repertoire, if you perform well; it’s all on you. I don’t think any other degree would’ve forced me to grow up and own my life the way being a music major did. read less
