What is basic difference between a viola and a violin?

The viola is larger than the violin, has a deeper, richer sound, and is tuned a fifth lower (C-G-D-A vs. G-D-A-E for the violin). Violas often play harmony or middle voices in ensembles, while violins usually carry the melody.

It's absolutely not possible to learn violin by reading books only. At least manage to get some good violin tutorials online or go to a violin trainer. anyway, these two books are best. Suzuki Violin Method. Galamian.

Why do the words 'violins' and 'violas' have different sounding ?
Because of the thicker strings, the viola sound lower than violin

A (440 Hz). Most orchestral instruments use this particular frequency to tune their instruments.

Hi, I want to learn to play the violin, and I am not sure which violin to go for as a beginner. I don't have any local shop nearby, so I probably would have to order online. Can someone help with which violin I should buy?
You should always go to the store and check out yourself by playing on different acoustic instruments. Even if they look the same, the sound won't! Play by yourself and pick the one you like.
