I would better to say learn with industry standard software like Premiere Pro, FCP etc...Today leading editing also include VFX too, hence After effects is really inevitable

Video editing as per technology point Premiere is best / after effect is not editing software as per theoretical point of view. Mac version u have to use FCP again not motion. There are many softwares also but I told u basics only.
