Both tools have there own significance.Its good if you have knowledge on both the tools ,but it will be difficult to master on both the tools at a time as these tools are completely different from each other.

But i suggest you to learn one tool and then you can learn the other easily.It all depends on your analysis skills than the knowledge on one particular tool. How is Tableau Desktop is different from Tableau Public?
Bot are almost similar, but limitations at public, which we can not connect to DBs and do not have LIVE and EXTRACT Connection.
