take a few years. First of all you should the hang of the gharana you are playing for, like Benares style of playing , farrukabad style of playing, delhi style of playing, punjab style of playing. Riyaaz is a very important, and it is good to practise atleast 1 hour a day, starting with vilambit(slow speed) first and then do the ‘fixed compositions of the gharanas’ in drut laya. It is also good that you have a good sense of visualising time and quantising it. I mean you should be comfortable with layakari. Practise speaking a composition aloud everyday, and try to play with its speed. Finally, to become an artist, learn the parts of what makes a performance as an accompanist. read less

Guitar Tutor With Experience of 7years

At least 1 year of continuous practice. Practice atleast thrice a week(3 hours a week). Actually it takes years to master tabala.
