Raja Yoga, known as the “royal path,” is the system of yoga outlined by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. It focuses on mastering the mind through ethical living, breath control, concentration, and deep meditation. Its ultimate goal is achieving “citta vritti nirodha”—the stilling of mental fluctuations—to realize the true Self. Raja Yoga includes eight limbs (Ashtanga Yoga), guiding practitioners from external discipline to inner absorption (samadhi). It is considered the most direct path to spiritual liberation within Patanjali’s framework. While other yogic paths exist, Raja Yoga is central for those seeking inner mastery and union with pure consciousness.
