As you are strong and interested in SQL, why not to choose ETL Testing? It has a good career ahead in data projects. To survive in the market, you need both Oracle & SQL Server. Actually, both are almost same but are different products.

Hi, Santhosh,

Since you are interested in the database, you can try the below options.

  • If you know SQL, you can get the SQL support job.
  • If SQL & PLSQL/T-SQL with SQL tuning concepts, you can get into a developer job.
  • If you know Linux/shell, you can get more chances for the developer.
  • It will take time to learn oracle since it is vast, but you have more opportunities.

For MS-SQL, it will be easy, and job opportunities are a bit less when compared to Oracle.

You said you have three years gap, make sure you have a convincing reason for HRs.

I hope this helps.

All the best!

Hi Santhosh,

If the choice is between Oracle and MS SQL server, I would recommend Oracle. Oracle is more widely used than peers especially for enterprise solutions in MNCs like JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, BNP, Citi, BOA etc.

I would also recommend you focus on Object stores and NoSQL database, especially with Big Data flavours like MongoDB, Post GreSQL, Hadoop etc.
