I have three year experience in teaching

Fewer refers to number among things like fewer choices and less refers to quantity among measured things like less effort

Both words are used for small quantities. Fewer is used for countable nouns and less is used for uncountable nouns. Eg: There's less traffic on the road today. Eg: I have fewer books than my friend
