Mr Singaravelu, you have been keeping us busy on English Grammar... Is it that you are testing our gut on English? or is it that your students are really asking you too many questions and you come searching for answers! Just Joking! When it comes to the most versatile part of speech in a sentence, you could say verbs rule. You can make an entire sentence out of one verb. For example, “Stop!” See, that’s a sentence! You can’t make a sentence with any other part of speech. Nouns cannot make a one-word sentence, nor can adjectives, adverbs, or any other part of speech. Wake, brush, drink, eat, wash, stand, sit, comb, wear, pick, read, write, Give, Meet, Greet, Open, Close, Listen, Pick, Drop, Look, Teach, Learn, Sleep, Laugh, Cry, Fight, Hide, Cook, Sing, Pray All of these words show some kind of action. They express something that a person, animal, or object can do. That’s why we call them action verbs. Language has become so inevitable that you need a word to identify an action 'Smile :)' Happy Learning!! read less

Transitive verbs always receive a direct object. E.g. ---Richard annoys his boss so much that he’ll never get a promotion.(His boss is the direct object of annoys and a promotion is the direct object of get) Here’s a list of some common transitive verbs that must be followed by a direct object: bring, send, owe, contain, buy, show, take, tell, verify, check, get, wash, finalizeannoy, lay, lend, offered,it,make, phone. Intransitive verbs do not need a direct object in order to complete their meaning.E.g. ---If Cathy continues to be late for work, the boss will fire her. (Continues is followed by an infinitive (to be), with no direct object.) Here is a list of common intransitive verbs: come, explode, laugh, sit, rise, excel, respond, run, cough, swim, emigrates, mile, act, cry, immigrate, lie, arrive, continue, die,go. Here is a list of several verbs that can be both transitive and intransitive depending on their meanings: set, leave, give, study, sit, grow, smell, dance, sing, write, teach, burn, eat, paintdrive, manage, stop, climb, run, check, cost,go,pay, improve. read less
