1-2: Sentences

A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. A sentence contains a complete thought such as a statement, question, request or command. Sentences are the most significant grammatical components of the English language, and must always include a subject (except for imperative sentences) and predicate. All sentences must begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop/period (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). Here are some examples of sentences below:

1. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the World.

2. Hamlet was written by Shakespeare.

3. Who was the first President of America?

4. “Get out,” the boss said to his employee.

5. “Sir, may I please come in?”

6. ''Bravo! You have done well in the examination''.

Kinds of Sentences Sentences are of four kinds:

1. Statement

2. Question

3. Command Or Request Or Entreaties

4. Strong Feelings
