An interjection is a word which is used to express feeling.

Example: 1. Hurrah! Our team won the match!

                The word ' hurrah' expresses joy.

            2. Bravo! Well done!

              The word 'bravo' expresses praise.

           3. Alas! We los the match.

             The word 'alas' expresses sorrow/sadness.

Some other interjeection are:

Oh! (to show sadness or wonder or surprise)

Hush! (to tell someone to be quite)

Hello! (to greet someone)

What! (to show surprise or anger).

 

We always put an exclamation (!) after an interjection.

Exercise 1.

1. Hello! What are you doing there?

2. Alas! He is dead.

3. Hurrah! We have won the game.

4. Ah! Have they gone.

5. Oh! got such a fright.

6. Hush! Don't make noise.
