‘The’ is used for a particular thing, person, names of rivers, ocean, seas, hills, lakes, trains, ships, deserts, name of newspapers, magazines, religious book, public places. It is same for all genders in singular and in plural.

The sun, the sky, the Earth, the President, the Prime Minister, the Director, the Golden Temple, the Himalayas, the Arabian sea, the Sahara desert, the morning, the evening, the greatest, the best, the most, the worst, the weakest, 

‘Article ‘ is not used in the following cases:

Before school, church, college, before a noun which comes after the words – appoint, nominate, election declared.

Article is not used before words – lunch, breakfast, dinner:

  1. I invited him to dinner.
  2. I had my breakfast.
  3. We shall have lunch at 2 pm.

Article is not used before the name of disease, language, colours:

  1. She died of dengue fever.
  2. I can speak English.
  3. He likes blue color.  

Article is not used before shops, banks, hotels, name of company:

  1. Akbar was a great emperor.
  2. Go to hell.
  3. Keep your file to the left.
  4. There is an hourly bus service.
  5. Kashmir is the Switzerland of india.
  6. What's the matter?
  7. I am going to take a bath.
  8. I am very good in Economics.
  9. I am learning  French.
  10. I found him near church.
  11. He is an artist.
  12. I made an F.I.R against him.

Passive Voice of present simple tense.

Type of sentence: Active Voice and Passive Voice. 

Rules of converting Active Voice in Passive Voice:

Convert object to subject + is / are / am + verb 3rd form + by + convert subject to object + remaining sentence.

Positive sentences:

  • He drives my car.

My car is driven by him.

  • Teachers do not punish students now a days.

Students are not punished by teachers now a days.

  • He does not like my advice.

        My advice is not liked by him.

  • Do you know him?

Is He known by you?

  • Do you read English news paper daily?

Is English news paper read by you?

  • Is my help required by them in emergency?

Do they require my help in emergency?

 Passive Voice of Present continuous tense:

Rules of converting Active to Passive Voice:

  • He is not doing his work.

His work is being not done by him.

  • He is doing your job right now.

Your job is being done by him right now.
