We have waited means that your wait has finished before the person arrived. We have been waiting means you wait ended with the arrival of the person.

No they are different.. we have waited.. means you were waiting in the past but its over now.. The second one means : We were waiting in the past and we are still waiting.. it is a continuous action . Hope this clarifies your doubt
