Building Vocabulary

A good way to build vocabulary

Rules

  1. Target 126 words
  2. Time yourself : 5mins
  3. No proper nouns
  4. No repeated words
  5. No connected words
  6. No spelling mistakes.

Take a letter of the Alphabet and write down all the words you know starting with that letter

For eg: "D"

Dance, dog, drum, dodge, dandy, dope, doodle, disco............Continue.

Check how many words you can remember in 5 mins (Writing)

say your total was 25 0r 30 0r even 60,

Only half of those words will come out when you speak. (that's , 30 0r 15 or less)

Writing total : 60 / 30

Speaking total : 30 /15

So in order for you to increase your vocabulary and use words appropriately,  Learn 5 new words every single day.

Find the synonyms, antonyms and then find a situation and use the word

sometimes you may not use the word correctly...Don't worry... use it nevertheless . You will soon learn that word

and then you will eventually use it in the correct context.

Every day discipline yourself and do this exercise. You will soon possess an interesting vocabulary.
