Why lakes of large extent are called the seas, like the Caspian, the Dead and the Aral seas?

This is because these lakes are so big that it is difficult to distinguish the surrounding landmass which is not clearly visible also. Only the horizon can be seen from a distance. They have larger surface area and most of the water is salty in nature.

When long ago, when nearby people found that lakes they firstly thought it is a sea....because at at that time they never saw a sea ( i.e.how big sea is)or for their consideration those lakes are too big...thats why since that time we are pronouncing them as sea not as lakes...

The salanity of these lakes are high as compare to another sea like indian ocean and other also these condition are much similer to the condition of a sea.So that inspite of being a lake these lakes called sea.

The Caspian sea ,the dead sea and the Aral sea are presently lakes.Long before these were not landlocked .they were all like the arabian sea .When the landmassses started moving closer to each other these became landlocked lakes. since these lakes still contain salt as before they are called seas.

Because of their high salt content. It has nothing to with the dimension of these water bodies.

Because of distribution of land mass as well as some specific properties of water similar to those found in sea category.
