The best pencils for drawing and sketching are a HB, 2B, 6B and 9B. Far better than buying a whole set of pencils, most of which will never be used.

If an artist prefers softer, darker lines with rich shading and wants to achieve a more dramatic effect, a 4B pencil would be the better choice. On the other hand, if they prefer a bit more control with a slightly lighter and less intense line, then a 2B pencil might be preferable.

what kinds of pencil required for sketching? can we also use colour pencils and colour sketch pens?
thnkx Poonam for info, its really useful. But my doubt was "i have seen people use only black pencil for sketching. so can we use color pencil also." Art :- 6B is great.brought it yesterday and its wonderful.
