Implementation is the process of moving from Non sap area to SAP.In one way a functional consultant will be responsible for bringing the software to a usable condition i.e whatever is required for the organisation will be configured.Few years back age was not the criteria for getting into an organisation as a functional consultant.But in the recent years organisation are looking for younger people with professional qualification like CA, ICMA OR MBA. 2.SUPPORT CONSULTANT - This is the second area where one can make a career.His role will come into picture whenever the user like an accountant or cashier who is recording the day to day activities in the SAP software gets an error.As a support consultant you have to diagnose, analyze and solve the issue.The eligibility criteria remains the same as for the above. 3.END USER- You can plan your career as an end user, who will be using the software for recording the day to day activities.He will responsible for all the accounting activities but will be doing it in SAP software. I want to do a course of SAP FICO. I have an experience of 8 years in Accounts Payable. But I'm in a dilemma whether to do that course or not because after completing the course I am unsure if the market will provide me the same salary or not. I am currently getting 8-9 lacs. Please resolve my query. 
As you mentioned that you are holding eight years of experience in AP, the best option for you is to go with SAP FICO /S4 HANA FINANCE 1709/1809 because" HANA IS THE FUTURE OF SAP " so better to start the things with HANA.
