There is no hard and fast criteria that SAP requires engineering background. On high level SAP is business software designed to integrate all business areas. SAP can be divided into two parts Technical and Functional. Technical part comprises of following modules : 1. ABAP (coding) 2. BI (ETL tool - Reporting) 3. Basis (Maintenance/installing of systems ) and 4. Security (Authorizations). Functional part consists of various different modules, major ones are listed below: 1. Sales. 2. Finance 3. Material Management 4. Quality Management 5. Banking 6. Planning Generally companies recruit engineers for technical modules, as they have good problem solving and analytical skills. And they recruit industry knowledge people/ MBAs/CAs for Functional parts as they understand the business and flow better. Nonetheless you can build you skills in anything which suits your interests. And finally, if you have expertise in both technical and functional skills you can be recruited at Business consultant/Analyst, as you will be able to provide high level end-to-end solutions to client. read less
