The cell cycle has two main phases: **Interphase** and **M phase**.
**Interphase** is divided into three parts:
* **G₁ phase**: The cell grows and prepares for DNA replication.
* **S phase**: DNA is duplicated.
* **G₂ phase**: The cell prepares for mitosis by making proteins and organelles.
**M phase** (mitosis) has four stages:
* **Prophase**: Chromosomes condense and spindle fibers form.
* **Metaphase**: Chromosomes align at the cell's center.
* **Anaphase**: Chromatids separate and move to opposite poles.
* **Telophase**: New nuclei form and the cell gets ready to divide.
