I am Ashok B, an experienced and passionate music teacher specializing in Hindustani Vocal Music and Piano. With over 25 years of expertise in both classical music and modern piano techniques, I have honed my skills under the guidance of renowned Gurukul Talim in Kolkata and Swarsagar Music Classes. My deep connection to music is rooted in a traditional Gurukul system that emphasizes discipline, theory, and practice, combined with my modern approach to teaching. I hold a BA in Music and a Grade 3 Trinity Piano Certification, which have helped me to blend traditional and contemporary music education seamlessly. Throughout my journey in music, I have had the privilege of learning and performing in various settings. I have participated in Ghazal programs and performed in a variety of musical events, which has expanded my repertoire and understanding of different music genres. This wide-ranging experience has shaped my approach to teaching, allowing me to offer a diverse and holistic education to my students. In addition to my performances, I have also worked as a music teacher at CBSE schools, providing me with the opportunity to guide young learners and foster their appreciation for the art form. My teaching style focuses on providing a strong foundation in both Hindustani classical vocal music and piano. I teach students from age 5 and above, offering them a personalized, hands-on learning experience that nurtures their individual musical growth. I conduct offline classes, typically lasting 1 hour, where we focus on practical sessions. In these sessions, I introduce students to various techniques, music theory, and performance skills, helping them develop not only their technical proficiency but also their emotional expression through music. My classes are designed to cater to students at different skill levels, from beginners to more advanced learners. For Hindustani vocal music, I teach students the intricacies of ragas, taals, and basic vocal techniques, emphasizing the importance of voice modulation, breath control, and emotional connection to the music. For piano, I begin with the fundamentals of the instrument, progressing to more complex compositions. My goal is to create a learning environment that is both enjoyable and educational, where students can explore their musical talents and reach their full potential. One of the unique aspects of my teaching is the emphasis on practical learning. Whether it’s vocal music or piano, I believe that students learn best by doing. Therefore, my classes are structured to allow ample time for students to practice and perform what they’ve learned. I also provide a musical exam structure, such as Grade 2 piano exams, to help students track their progress and work towards tangible goals. These exams not only test technical skills but also foster confidence and stage presence in students. I also aim to foster a love for music that goes beyond the classroom. I believe that music is a lifelong journey, and I strive to instill in my students a deep respect for the art form. Whether students are learning to perform for their family, preparing for exams, or simply enjoying the process of musical exploration, I am dedicated to supporting their growth and nurturing their love for music. If you are looking for a teacher who combines traditional music knowledge with modern teaching techniques, I would be honored to work with you. My goal is to help students discover their unique musical voices and empower them to express themselves through the beautiful mediums of Hindustani vocal music and piano.
