Alkali metals are also known as active metals becouse they are readily reacts with water and ethanol.
But it do not react with benzen.
So it can be stored in benzen.
As active metal on reaction with water forms their corresponding hydroxides. Where as the alcohols are slightly acidic in nature cause the formation of corresponding salts with alcohols.
But with benzen they do not react at all. So it is easy to preserve them in benzen.
