First of all, if image is provided in any retell lecture, just scan it in your mind quickly. What is more important is to hear a lecture so when lecture starts, pay attention to it and focus on key words & sequencing of information. Many trainers and PTE guideline books suggest to note down the points on Erasable Noteboard Booklet but I advice my students to use that booklet only (if necessary, otherwise not) to note down difficult words, specially specific names which are not familiar to you because if you will focus more on writing, you will miss to understand the speaker’s purpose, tone & attitude behind the lecture & preparation time of 10 seconds after audio stops is too less so in 10 seconds organise the ideas which you have in your mind, like key points, supporting points, explanations, examples etc. Then as microphone opens, start speaking in a logical way but at a normal speed, use appropriate words & phrases to the context, use correct grammar, use correct intonation, use correct pronunciation & stress the words where necessary while giving your response with all the key points, supporting ideas & examples. If there are more examples in lectures, you can speak about few of them considering the time limit. read less

Will I be penalized in speaking tasks for not having an accent from a native English speaking country?
NO you won't be penalized. It just looks at your knowledge of the language and doesn't test for your accent as they realize you are a non-native speaker.
