A tripod is a camera stand with three legs all professional photographers use it. You will not find a photo studio without a tripod. And photographers use it for long exposure shots like for low light shots and night shoots. And a monopod is also a camera stand with one leg.

Tripod is used to impress birds. on a serious note it gives photographers some relax cos they need not to hold the camera for hours to capture wings of sparrow :D

Product photography takes hours of setting and best angle to compose. they need to set the cam on tripod and starts setting . with out tripod its not possible to set. each time he wont get the same composition when hand held. like this all professional photographers need a tripod to get the proper image. read less

In the same vein, they reduce camera shake, and thus are instrumental in achieving maximum sharpness. A tripod is also helpful in achieving precise framing of the image, or when more than one image is being made of the same scene, for example when bracketing the exposure.
