The cell cycle begins with interphase (preparatory phase or step) here all the majore Organelles, proteins and DNA duplication/replication takes place.
These three majore tasks of interphase is done by the three sub-steps in interphase:
G^1 phase: cell simply grows in size, cell is metabolically active(neccessary reactions are taking place).
S phase: DNA replicates, the number of chromosome remain same but the amount of DNA in a chromosome doubles. Centrioles duplicate which are responsible for splitting of centromere of chromosome.
G^2 phase: Here protein synthesis takes place.
After interphase M-aphase (Mitotic phase) begins :
In this phase there are 4 steps :
1-Prophase: Here the chromosome get condensed, centrioles depart towards opposite poles of the cell.
2-Metaphase: As the name suggests, metaphasic plate formation takes place in this i.e. all the chromosomes align at the centre/middle part of the cell forming a metaphasic plate. Centrioles have reached the poles and they spread their asters (spindal fibers) towards the centromere of the chromosome.
3-Anaphase : Here the spliting of centromere of chromosome takes place, via help of spindle fibers. As the chromosome split forming two chromosome with ideantical genetic material and no variability is why mitotic division is called equational division.
4-Telophase: Here, the form which cell pre-existed in disociates/ di-condences. All the organalle dissociate so does the nuclear membrane and mitochondria.
This completes the cell cycle.
Hopefully this helps.
