Probability can be defined as the extent to which an event is likely to occur, measured by the ratio of the favourable cases to the whole number of cases possible.

The probability of an event can be defined as the measure of the chance that an event will occur as a result of an experiment. The probability of an event X is the total number of ways the event X will occur, divided by the total number of possible outcomes.

Though probability was originally used for gambling, it has extensively been used in the fields of Commerce, Weather Forecasting, Physical Sciences, Medical Sciences and Biological Sciences.

You have already studied about probability in earlier classes, while performing experiments such as throwing dice, tossing coins etc. In this chapter, you will learn about measuring the chance of occurrence of a particular outcome in an experiment.
