In Class 11th, you have studied the differentiation of functions and learnt to differentiate
trigonometric and polynomial functions. In Class 12, Chapter 5 – Continuity and
Differentiability, you’ll study significant concepts such as continuity, differentiability

Section 5.2 – In this section, you’ll learn what continuity is, algebra of continuous
functions, some important theorems, the value of a function and point of discontinuity.
Section 5.3 – In this section, you’ll get an in-depth knowledge of a real function,
derivatives of composite functions, the chain rule, derivatives of implicit functions and
derivatives of inverse trigonometric functions.
Section 5.4 – In this section, you’ll study exponential functions and logarithmic
functions, salient features of the exponential functions, natural exponential functions,
logarithmic functions and some striking properties of the natural exponential functions.
Section 5.5 – In this section, you’ll learn about logarithmic differentiation and how to
differentiate the certain special class of functions.
Section 5.6 – This section gives you exposure to derivatives of functions in parametric
forms (where the parameter refers to the third variable establishing a relation between
the first two variables).
Section 5.7 – In this section, you’ll learn what second-order derivative is all about.
Section 5.8 – In this section, you’ll learn about two fundamental results in Calculus and
geometrical interpretations of some important theorems such as Rolle’s Theorem and
Mean Value Theorem.
