Learning Excel can help you professionally, and is a must-have skill in the modern corporate world. Spreadsheets are great conversation starters at parties and business meetings. Both Google Sheets and Excel spreadsheets are a perfect employment test to see if the applicant learned anything in any job they have ever had in the past. If you are in finance or accounting field, it would be more beneficial for you to learn Excel. You can do the following, career-wise: General formatting: Coded inputs to be in blue, calculated fields in black assumptions in red/green. One would prefer keeping the entire background white and shading assumption cells with grey etc. Pivot tables: We hear this a lot in job interviews in which students are given a quick Excel project to check their chops. Pivot tables are a big part of that. Naming cells and ranges: If you could learn this, then you can consider yourself from a novice from a person who has stepped up a grade. Most importantly, financial formulas can be of great help for you to learn. Majority of students avoid learning the underlying finance. But, it is highly recommended so make sure that you learn this too. It will be a saviour on a rainy day.
