A pivot table allows you to analyse large amounts of tabular data in different ways by selecting one of more specific columns as the fields for which you want to see the required results. For example, consider ahalf yearsinvoice report which has may be thousands of lines of data. It is difficult to analyse it as it is. So if you want to see which product performed well, or which are the top 3 products in terms of sales, or who are the top performing sales staff, etc. can be derived out of a pivot table. This is the most effective tool one can use in excel for data analysis. This topic is covered in great detail in my online course which includes one year's support.
