For Hlook the datatable in which are looking up, should be horizontally arranged, i.e. It should be in Rows. For example if it is a menu of product prices. Hlookup is used to look up the data from other location, could be same worksheet/workbook or other. So there are few lookup function in excel like, Match,Vlookup and Hlookup . When data is in horizontal format we used Hlookup to get some value based on any specific lookup value
