UNDER STANDING CONCEPT OF QUESTION,
the question says the ratio of P and Q's current age is 5:7
so, what are the possible ages, 1)5 and 7 (5*1 and 7*1)
2)10 and 14 (5*2 and 7*2)
3) 15 and 21 (5*3 and 7*3)
4) 20 and 28 (5*4 and 7*4)
etc.
in equation form it can be written as 5x and 7x.
the possible ages after 6 years 1) 5+6 and 7+6
2) 10+6 and 14+6
etc.
in mathematical equation form this can be written as
5x+6 and 7x+6
now the final part of question comes, it says that the difference between Q’s present age and P’s total age after 6 years is 2 , so we will have to among which of the above cases the difference is 2,
Q’s preset age = 7x ( possible ages are 7, 14, 21 etc)
P’s age after 6 years= 5x +6 ( possible ages 11, 16,21 etc)
Difference 7x - (5x+6) =2x-6
Since according to question the difference id 2,
2x-6=2
2x=8
X =4
The gives the age of P as 5x = 20
Q as 7x = 28
Now the sum of age of P and Q is = 5x+ 7x= 20+28 = 48
