The British partitioned Bengal on religious grounds.
The primary objective behind this was expanding the British policy of divide and rule.
The Muslims demanded separate electorates; however, they were given a particular region (today Bangladesh then East Bengal ). By this, our Bengal came to be called West Bengal.
