Why does Java compile source codes into byte codes and then use an interpreter?

Java Compiler interact with JVM at Compile time , JVM changes the code to Byte Code . When we run byte code then JVM loads the class file into its Stack memory then execute with Java interpreter which is one component of JVM only . So finally we get answer as per program .

The idea is that rather than compile Java to native machine code for each platform, Java is compiled to a bytecode, so It'll work on lots of different processors.
