Java and Java Script solve two different problem areas. Java is used more on server side although you have swing and JSP or servlets for web they are dead technology wise. Just learning Java on its own doesn't get you a job you will need to learn other frameworks like spring, spring boot. the tooling and resources around java matured. Java script is scripting language its more used in website or web page development. Againt with java script you need to know HTML5 , CSS to start using your skills. later you will see demand for Angular or Vue.js or react which are Java script libraries that do the work for you. similar to java you will eventually need to learn or alteast know one of these. If you are creative, love changing colours again and again to get things perfected website or java script may be the thing for you. If thats not your skill but you love logical coding and are ok to see logs and understand how application works Java might be the way to go. for learning or to see things visually Java script willm give you things like message box and validation easy. comapred to just messages on console that will mostly be the case with new Java programs. read less
