It all depends on you. If you are already aware of programming then it is definetly possible to learn java at home. But if learn through a tutor then you can learn easily.

Hello, I'm a masters student and recently got into the DST as a fresher. Now I'm in training and working like hell to clear the assessments. There is a final exam on core java which decides my stay in the company. They will give a requirement and we need to write the code.
