I am Japanese language teacher. teaching over 6 years from college Student professional.

at the beginners level you need a teacher or mentor who willn't just teach but guide you how start learning Japanese as well as showing essence of Japanese culture through learning.

Partially yes...like the section of vocab or script you can learn by yourself but for grammar it is ideal to learn under someone's guidance so your basics are clear

Moreover, you might also face difficulty in practice as you need people who knows japanese and teacher can provide you that. Also teacher will correct you when you mistake so it is better to start Japanese with a little guidance rather than doing it on your own. read less
