"Why is ozone is thermodynamically unstable?" in   CBSE/Class 12/Science/Chemistry, Tuition/Class XI-XII Tuition (PUC)

Here the Gibb's free energy is the determining factor. The chemical species with +G is considered to be thermodynamically unstable with respect to its element & they have spontaneous tendency to decompose to its constituents elements. For ozone G for formation is +163KJ/mol have tendency to spontaneous decomposition at 25 C & is thermodynamically unstable. The equilibrium constant for formation of ozone is less than one. But it survives because the reaction of decomposition of ozone to O2 is very slow.

" in   Tuition/Class XI-XII Tuition (PUC)

The first law, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system. The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system always increases. The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero.
